MONROVIA, Calif., May 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- STAAR Surgical Company (Nasdaq: STAA), a developer, manufacturer and marketer of implantable lenses and related ophthalmic products, today announced the closing of an underwritten public offering of 3,600,000 million shares of its common stock, including the over-allotment option of 469,565 shares, at a price to the public of $5.00 per share. The gross proceeds of the offering, before deducting underwriting commissions and estimated offering expenses, were $18.0 million. The net proceeds were approximately $16.7 million. All shares of the common stock offered by STAAR were sold pursuant to a shelf registration statement that was declared effective by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on August 8, 2006.
